Dr. Wanda Chukwu: Amplifying Nursing Voices as a Podcast Co-Host and Advocate for Diversity and Health Literacy

Dr. Wanda Chukwu was selected to be one of the first co-host for the American Nurse Association (ANA) Michigan podcast, Voices for Nurses: A podcast for Michigan Nurses by ANA Michigan Nurses.

Dr. Chukwu is serving a consecutive two-year term on the ANA Michigan Nursing & Health Policy committee. She is an active member of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) and has participated in their Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) sub-committee to create a toolkit to support incorporating DEI in Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) programs. She is a peer evaluator and was selected to serve on the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) evaluator review panelist. She currently serves as the Education chairperson for the Association of Black Nursing Faculty (ABNF), Inc.

Wanda has been working in the nursing field for over thirty years and has been in nursing academia for eighteen years, at both the university and community college levels. She obtained her associate degree (AD) from Minneapolis Community College and earned her Bachelors of Arts (BA) and Masters of Arts (MA) in organizational management from Spring Arbor University. Subsequently, she obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree at the University of Phoenix, culminating with Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Capella University. Additionally, she taunts an academic clinical nurse educator certification from the National League of Nursing. Most recently, she received the Sallie Tucker-Allen Outstanding Member Award from ABNF. She is currently working as the nursing program clinical coordinator and is a nursing faculty at Henry Ford College.

Dr. Chukwu's true passion is community engagement, specifically conducting patient health awareness classes. Her career thus far, has focused on health literacy to improve patient clinical outcomes. Past experiences include working as a clinical director, a business owner, a nursing supervisor, a marketing director and educational community liaison for family owned independent retail pharmacy, and a health care consultant - helping others achieve their dreams of becoming a business owner. Her favorite quote is: "When a flower doesn't bloom, fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower" - Alexander Den Heijer.
